As the eldest of four boys, Ilya was always pressured to be the role model to his brothers. That meant, in his parents’ minds; he couldn’t sew, he couldn’t do hair, he couldn’t clean, and worst of all, he couldn’t bake. There were far, far more things he wanted to try but couldn’t due to these strict rules. Instead, he was trained to haul boxes and heavy loads of items. He was taught to burn both ends of his candle, nonstop, 24 hours a day. It was exhausting work, and his brothers would have to endure the same tiring work as himself when they reached only 14 years old.

In the year 2006, Ilya’s mother and father divorced, with both taking full custody of two of the four boys. Ustinya took in Romano and Rivera, the twin middle boys, while Pierre would home Ilya and his youngest brother, Luco. The boys were not allowed to visit their mother, and vice versa with Romano and Rivera. Ilya’s father remarried almost two years later; to a woman named Fleur Delvine.

Fleur was a far better, and more nuturing mother to Ilya than his birth mother. She would let him help out around the house while dad and Luco were gone. That meant, he was able to learn an abundance of recipies, entirely from scratch. To conceal this from his still strict father, Ilya would give all the credit to Fleur, though he felt a tinge of sadness and jealousy each time he did so, because it was his own work that he couldn’t exactly show off.

His brother, Luco, however, noticed his subtly every time, and decided to investigate the situation. Though having found out that his suspicions were indeed correct, he promised to keep a tight lip about it, as he actually found Ilya’s secret talent quite charming. Luco was actually the one (besides Fleur) who swayed him in the path to a bakery of his own. Both told him they’d stop by as often as possible, and when he did end up moving out and starting his business, they did not disappoint.

Ilya opened Eat Sweet Bakery for the very first time in 2009, at only 20 years old. He took every single recipe he learned from Fleur, as well as some he used to sneak while Ustinya was still around, and even created new dishes from those ones.

The bakery has been around for ten years now, and is astoundingly popular in Brooklyn, New York.
